An increase in online orders, a labour shortage and innovations that make automation more affordable are all accelerating the increasing adoption of automation. Automation may be used to detect hazards and prevent accidents around industrial doors. Augmented reality technology can give warehouse managers a clear and complete overview of their operations. As integration of human and artificial intelligence (AI) continues to grow, we are reaching the point where AI (drones, AMRs) takes over all the repetitive and simple tasks currently performed by employees. This will allow employees to focus instead on more complex tasks and on those where humans can add value, according to Rite-Hite.

The new high speed industrial sectional door from Hörmann UK, the Series 60, has been designed and developed to provide quality construction, high security, and easy installation. When fitted with the new WA 500 FU operator, the Series 60 can achieve an impressive door opening speed of up to 1 m/s making it the fastest sectional door on the market, helping speed up warehouse operations and reduce building heat loss. Not only does the Series 60 door offer an exceptional opening speed, but optimised track radii and enlarged rollers result in up to 5 dB(A) quieter door operation together with improved stability, leading to low wear and smoother door travel.

BID Group Ltd recently supplied and installed Klimate High Speed Doors for a client which then led to an order for a new security barrier, boundary gate and they now have a loading bay project in the pipeline. BID Group Ltd consists of established product divisions, providing a one stop shop for warehouse facilities managers, enabling them to cut out the lengthy search process when looking for suppliers that provide replacement industrial doors, gates, barriers and loading bay equipment for their premises.

Union Industries, the Leeds-based manufacturer of high-speed industrial doors, has increased its stock levels even further to allow minimal lead times for production of its door range and replacement parts. The driver behind this has been the 12% increase the company has seen in orders from companies looking to replace foreign made doors. Union Industries prides itself on its low lead time and ensures there are sufficiently high stock levels to manufacture a minimum of 25 doors at any one time.

It is refreshing to see automation being used to increase security around doors.
