Providing the right light is a key productivity factor which makes a large difference to the way we work. Over 80% of the information we receive is taken in visually. It provides optimum conditions for working and induces greater productivity and concentration. This equates to improved work quality, fewer errors and improved safety. The right quality and quantity of light is critical in the dynamic world of Logistics and Warehousing.

The requirements involved in planning and renovating logistics halls and warehouses are varied and challenging. A recent survey by JLL suggested that technology is expected to have the greatest impact on building design in the coming years, along with sustainability. To answer the demands of technology and space flexibility the lighting also needs to be Smart and versatile. Intelligent LED lighting systems can result in an energy saving of 70-80% over old technology.

Flexibility to relocate lighting points and redesign spaces in this fastmoving environment means that cleverly designed trunking system like RIDI’s LINIA can tick many boxes for future proofing the space. There are also many varied task- based requirements where optic choices are required such as narrow beam for aisle surfaces with high ceilings.

The sheer size of building required in the big box logistics world mean that sustainability is more important than ever in its design. Energy saving means saving carbon and money as energy bills continue to climb. And lighting controls can do much more than dim the lighting levels and sense the daylight. Lighting can be integrated with cloud based systems to provide intelligence on asset tracking and other data in this Industry 4.0 environment.

RIDI Group have recently installed the LINIA system in the Gabler Immobilienverwaltung, based in Schorndorf, Germany. This complex offers storage in several warehouses for transport companies and others with similar needs.

The facility offers more than 10,000 m² for the storage, management and processing of different goods. The previous lighting scheme housed conventional metal halide lighting where ON/OFF switching was not responsive enough to customer needs. The installation of a modern and energy-efficient LED-based solution was therefore investigated. Together with the VLG-FS gear tray, the RIDI LINIA-FLAT continuous-row lighting was specified, with its extremely flat and slim design. Thanks to the integrated linear optics and the additional prismatic disc, the light is diffused optimally without glare. Combined with an intelligent control solution and mixed luminosity and presence sensors, the light switches on in the warehouses only when a presence is detected and when natural light is insufficient.

According to Mike Attard, Managing Director for RIDI Group UK; ‘LINIA offers a versatile lighting solution for many of the challenges in the warehouse sector; those of flexibility, energy saving and smart lighting’. Follow RIDI on Linkedin www.linkedin.com/company/ridi-lighting/?viewAsMember=true
