High speed doors act as a moving barrier, providing warehouses with high levels of safety and security. They give greater control over who has access to a building, closing quickly once an authorised person has passed though, minimising the time the door is open and keeping out those who aren’t authorised to enter. High speed doors are also effective at keeping out pollution, dust and dirt, helping minimise the risk of contamination.

Large ‘sheds’ on the South Harbour at the Port of Blyth on the Northumberland coast bore the brunt of Storm Arwen, badly damaging their large access roller shutter doors. BID Group’s North East Division were commissioned to supply and install replacement curtains, rails, and new heavy duty fabricated guides, which at 250mm wide, and manufactured from 6mm steel plate will significantly reduce the risk of the doors being damaged again during high winds in the future. The project was completed within schedule, minimising downtime to the client’s operations.

Hörmann steel doors can be configured as either single or double-leaf versions, with the option of a fixed or removable top panel which is available in a choice of solid panels, ventilation grilles or transom lights. Efaflex installed high-speed doors at Westfield Shopping Centre based in Shepherds Bush, London to upgrade the service areas, creating secure and fast openings. Two doors were designed and installed as part of the overall process to upgrade the service yard which now features ANPR cameras that activate the doors and automatically book in delivery vehicles. This has helped speed up and secure the process, leaving the adjoining roads unblocked from waiting traffic.

One can be heartened by the number of door installations currently happening, keeping warehouses safe, clean and temperature controlled.
