At Smart-Space we consider ourselves an integral part of the logistics supply chain. We’ll be at Multimodal this year as we work with many businesses who are firmly in this sector, including logistics companies, importers, exporters, retailers, wholesalers, freight, rail, air and much more, says Jason Lynock, Sales Director, Smart-Space.

We come into the equation when the need for more space is driven by opportunity, market forces and/or necessity. Smart-Space supplies instant buildings to keep things going – that might mean businesses growing or simply continuing to be able to operate. Our buildings range from pop-up industrial tents to complete design and build, permanent solutions and everything in between.

Throughout the recent global challenges of the pandemic, Brexit, and many other factors, a lot of Smart-Space customers have needed to stock-pile products, making the most of every delivery from overseas, to allow themselves as much control over stock levels as possible.

We work with hauliers and truck businesses who need more space to service, repair and manufacture vehicles. We work with companies who need undercover space to load wagons, receive deliveries or simply store products.

It’s a complicated time right now as we see online shopping grow exponentially leading to many of the larger warehouses across the UK needing to offload stock to more regional bases. We have supported those changes in the retail chain and helped to make it happen.

Being at Multimodal means that we have the opportunity to talk to existing customers and meet others from the various sectors that make up the logistics industry. We get to see what’s new and how the market is responding to the current climate on a number of levels.

It’s an exciting time, a challenging one for sure, but by continuing to support our ‘buy British’ culture we are in a strong position to continue to grow as a business. We’ve been loyally supporting local companies over our thirty-year heritage by buying as much as we can from the Midlands (where we’re based) and the rest of the UK. It has been really valuable as we’ve gone through these recent periods of change. It has certainly helped us to stay resilient and not be reliant on overseas components.

Flexibility is key at the moment. Being able to design your own terms and conditions, with no minimum hire periods is very attractive as companies aren’t always sure what the future will bring. The Smart-Space team has always operated on a flexible basis but it has been a particularly vital part of the offering just recently.

We are looking forward to seeing how the industry comes together at Multimodal as well as anticipating some interesting activities, presentations and exhibits.
