Distribution and haulage companies have experienced significant growth over the last year due to Covid-19 boosting online shopping. Yet the UK has a shortage of logistics property available. Even if a company can find a suitable property, the disruption caused by moving could prove too much of a hit to operations at a time when the firm can’t afford for operational performance to decrease. One solution is a temporary building, which is a fast, affordable and flexible option.

Well done to Aganto, whose temporary industrial buildings were hired by CHEP UK, a leading provider of pallets for the logistics industry, for their sites across the Midlands, Berkshire, Essex and the North East. In October 2020, CHEP UK contacted Aganto with an immediate need to re-locate an existing temporary building. After a re-organisation of plant internally, this building was in dangerous proximity to a kiln in an adjacent building and was at risk of contravening health and safety protocol. Aganto acted immediately and re-located this temporary building to a different area on the site.

Congratulations to Rubb, which has provided a solution for DMC Mining and their pot ash project in Scarborough. Two THA structures will be supplied for the project, measuring 8m span x 9m long and 12m span x 18m long. Both buildings include 150 lux lighting, as well as a heating package to maintain an ambient temperature for workers. This is supported by each building’s 50mm Thermohall insulated cladding, which will make sure the heat is contained for a comfortable working environment.

“Just as we all look forward to the formal ending of lockdown in June, we are now facing problems of a completely different nature – a worldwide shortage of raw components,” says Antony Hunt, MD, Smart-Space Instant Buildings. From aluminium to steel to plastics and wood, there’s hardly a commodity that is unaffected and, consequently, not subject to either lack of availability, long delays or huge price hikes. Smart-Space has taken orders for and is quoting on additional instant buildings right now – purely to house extra supplies that are being stockpiled.

Broadwater manufactures Safeglide constant velocity spiral chutes, which require no operating power and have no moving parts. The unique design of Safeglide chutes ensures all items always move at a controlled speed of descent. Their ultra-tough, low friction surface makes them extremely hard wearing and virtually maintenance free.

With the online shopping trend set to continue, there is a strong demand for increased warehouse storage. This is a boon for providers of warehouse buildings.
