High speed doors are an indispensable part of today’s warehouse, given that strict temperature and humidity control is needed. Modern doors are usually fitted with sensors so they don’t hit anyone, although a more common occurrence is a person crashing into the doors. When a person hits a soft breakaway door, it is simple for the door to collapse out of its hinges and then return itself back to the guide rail.

With a similar concern for the welfare of workers, Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) is demonstrated its continuing support for Fire Door Safety Week, a national safety awareness campaign that was first launched in 2013. Held this year from 21-27 September, the campaign as always did a great job in raising awareness of the critical role that fire doors play in protecting life and property, drawing attention to specific issues such as poor installation and maintenance.

Now is the perfect time to make doors and the rest of the loading bay winter ready, especially if seasonal change comes sooner than expected. Frost, snow, ice and wet weather conditions combine with shorter days and longer nights to create loading practice challenges for any warehouse. Union Industries, the UK’s leading manufacturer of high-speed industrial doors, has supplied and installed one of its innovative Eiger fast acting rapid roll freezer doors within three weeks of receiving the order. The Leeds-based company was called into action by Oakland International, a UK and Ireland multi temperature supply chain specialist, after experiencing problems with an existing door from another supplier, installed as part of a freezer extension at its Corby depot in 2018.

One can take comfort that doors suppliers are as busy as ever, helping keep the loading bay as safe as possible.
