Short Span Shelving
Possibly the most easily recognised shelving, short span is ideal for products that need to be accessed quickly. This makes short span shelving a popular choice for picking and packing areas. Easily adjustable, they can be used to store small or medium products in a highly visible format. Often, short span shelves are around 2 metres high, to allow easy access by hand pickers -but they can also be designed to be much higher, and combined with either ladders or raised walkways to access taller shelves.
Long Span Shelving
As the name suggests, long span shelving benefits from a long length between uprights, making these ideal for storage of extra long items. As with short span shelving, long span is a flexible shelving option and can be designed around whatever product the warehouse needs to store.
Carton Live Shelving
Often utilised in picking and packing areas for items with a high turnover, carton live shelves use small rollers to help products slide to the front of the shelves. They can be either First In Last Out (when only accessed from one side); or, with an aisle at the back, they can be First In First Out – an excellent option for items that have an expiry date. Products are always easy to see and quick to reach, making them an excellent choice for busy distribution centres.
Mobile Shelving
Mobile shelving is a top space saving solution. Using floor tracks they can slide forwards and backwards, allowing access to one aisle at a time.It can be useful for storing valuable items, as the shelves can be kept closed and locked. Many companies use them for densely packed but infrequently used items, such as files or documents.
