PD Industrial, one of the UK’s leading designers, suppliers and installers of industrial storage systems, was one of the winners at the recent BITA (British Industrial Truck Association) Design4Safety Awards. The Midlands-based operation beat off strong opposition in the Racking & Shelving category with its innovative Reloskate product.

Reloskate has been specially designed to lift and move pallet racking structures without the need to dismantle or remove sprinkler pipes from within the structure. The skates can also be used on supermarket gondolas, and reduce the time and effort it takes to move industrial-scale shelving units by an estimated 70%.

Darren Hardiman, PD Industrial’s co-founder and Managing Director, accepted the Award from BITA Secretary James Clark during this year’s Logistics Awards which recently took place in Birmingham.

Commenting on the accolade, Darren said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this Award. Safety is of paramount importance in everything we do at PD Industrial, and Reloskate is a terrific innovation that makes the warehouse a safer place.”

The Design4Safety Awards highlight the importance of product or service design in improving safety standards. Focusing specifically on design, the awards recognise and celebrate innovative thinking – regardless of the type or cost of the product or service.

The Reloskate concept has been used extensively in the United States for several years. But before the product could be introduced to the UK, it’s been necessary for PD Industrial to develop the product and commission rigorous testing procedures to ensure Reloskate complies with the unique requirements of the UK supply chain. This exhaustive 18-month process has resulted in Reloskate now being compatible with all UK and European pallet racking systems and supermarket gondolas.

The skate’s simple yet effective design enables the relocation of racking without any need for dismantling, providing a cost-effective, safe solution to the movement of industrial-scale shelving units. Since its introduction to the UK market just under a year ago, PD Industrial has completed £2 million worth of racking move projects on behalf of its clients in both warehouse and supermarket operations.

“So, whether you’re looking to remodel or optimise operational space, prepare for seasonal stock changes or create a more orderly flow in your warehouse or shop, Reloskate can solve any of your movement issues safely. And the operational efficiencies that our customers have received as a result of Reloskate have been phenomenal,” concluded Darren.
