Mark Harris, Managing Director at Maxi Mover spoke to Warehouse & Logistics News

What are your best-known products/solutions/services?

We are best known for manufacturing the ultimate lightweight low floor Luton van range in both the 3.5t and HGV van market sector. We work in partnership with all leading chassis cab manufacturers and specialist chassis and materials suppliers in order to remain at the forefront of lightweight delivery vans. Our team of master coachbuilders manufacture everything on site to the highest standards to support our mission; to help our customers to deliver more for less.

Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fastest?

We deal with all industry sectors to support their transport needs. We offer a range of over 45 body size variants derived from the 3.5m LittleMAX, 4.1m CityMAX, 4.5m JumboMAX, 5.1m BigMAX and 5.6m GiantMAX to accommodate all businesses’ specific needs. We also offer a range of rear frame options from barn doors, roller shutter, tail lift, full closure ramps and curtain side options.

Many transport businesses are continually searching for marginal efficiency and cost-saving gains. Our Maxi Movers allow them to achieve their payload and volume requirements. Many of our customers are from logistics, transport and removal companies. Many of these customers face the same daily operation challenges associated with running a HGV vehicles, and many of these challenges are solved by running a low loader 3.5t Luton vans.

What are your most recent product innovations?

We’re proud of our latest product range, the SprintMAX. The SprintMAX is a Mercedes Sprinter, the preferred choice of many delivery companies, with an ultra-lightweight ultrastrong fully bonded Maxi Mover body construction.

The SprintMAX is exclusive to Maxi Mover and offers an increased payload, increased volume, better fuel economy and reduced emissions over the standard Luton body type Sprinters. Where it truly trumps the competition is with the completely unrivalled support service, so keeping to one of our key phrases; we will keep your business on the road to success.

What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?

Definitely the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). This is a EU change to how emissions are measured, which will affect tax and first registration fees but more importantly, it’ll re-classify many LCVs as either “lightheavy” or “light-light”. Our entire team have worked tirelessly to ensure that our latest range of bodies meet with the WLTP requirements to manufacture a “light-light” LCV Maxi Mover under the new regulations.

Many major manufacturers have limited chassis available, whereas we have invested in a large amount of chassis cab stock to ensure our existing and new customers are able to change vehicles without costly delays.

Can you tell us about any recent customer contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?

The most common challenges we find our customers facing are difficulties finding HGV drivers, getting enough payload on 3.5t vehicles and overall efficiency.

We recently had a customer who used standard tail lift Luton vans for deliveries as many companies still do. Because of this, they allocated 15 minutes per drop which added up to a lot of time throughout the day. They made the switch over to low floor Maxi Mover Luton vans and they were able to cut their drop time down to just 5 minutes. This was entirely because of the lack of a tail lift and this resulted in a 66% increase in efficiency for each delivery!

How does business in 2019 compare to previous years? What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?

We are continuing to grow year-on-year because our research and development team are committed and focused on finding better ways to improve our product, systems and production. Every day, we look for marginal gains which ensure our Maxi Mover vans stay the very best in the business.

What’s the latest news from your company?

Apart from the Mercedes SprintMAX, we have been working on offering even more options for our customers, such as the lightweight fast-trak ProMAX Curtainslider low floor 3.5t Luton van.

This new Maxi Mover allows the absolute maximum payload and volume in its class, with the added advantage of offering maximum productivity with fork-lift load handling through the curtain side. The ProMAX Curtainslider was designed so that the curtain operation is safe, whilst avoiding all the traditional issues faced by a curtainside van. Issues such as over or under tensioned curtains, open curtain restraints in high winds, or loss of wing mirror vision caused by billowing curtains and slow loading times.

Can you tell us about any areas where you’re currently making technical advances?

As a company we have heavily invested in sourcing lightweight, strong, recyclable materials. As such, we now build the majority of our vehicles using an advanced fully bonded polypropaline material, which is then fused to form an ultra-strong, waterproof body conversion.

We actively promote a mindset of continuous improvement ensuring that our business and our customers businesses always maximise efficiency. Every minute matters. Every penny counts.

Are you investing in staff training and skills development?

We consider our staff to be the most important component of the business so we always aim to better our people wherever we can.

As part of our continuous improvement program, we invest in staff training and development to ensure our processes and systems are simple, effective, efficient and are beneficial to all.

Are you taking part in any major trade shows? Can you tell us what you’ll be exhibiting there?
