Codeway Ltd. introduces its latest DWIS [Dimension, Weight, Images, Scanned ID] solution, incorporating the Honeywell Autocube 8200. The Codeway DWIS system automatically captures all a package’s attributes including weight, dimensions, barcode data plus images of the box and its contents in just seconds.

“Codeway knows that there is nothing ‘box standard’ about measuring parcels. Manual measurement is slow and prone to operator error, which can prove costly to a warehouse operation and a brand’s reputation,” says Kees Spitters, Sales Manager, Codeway Ltd.

Honeywell’s Autocube 8200 is an electronic device that uses 3D depth sensing technology to instantly measure the dimensions of an object. With this latest parcel processing solution, Codeway enables its customers to measure regular rectangular packages alongside irregular packages including cylinders, prisms and polybags.

“This technology can accurately measure almost any shape or sized parcel’s dimension in a matter of seconds,” explains Kees Spitters. “The Autocube 8200 automatically measures the three main dimensions (length, height, width) and records the images. Combined with Codeway’s solution, the system enables the capture of the unique Barcode/RF tag ID, weight scales and label printer capability. Additionally, it has a modular design, so it can be operated fully or semi-automatically and can be tailored to each customer’s specific requirements.”

The solution also captures and stores images of the outer package, and its contents providing systems with securely stored data for both quality and security, plus claim verification purposes. For global logistical efficiencies, the system also provides weights and measures certified for different regions across the world, including NIST (US), OIML (Europe, ANZ, META) and Measurement Canada.

Honeywell Autocube 8200 has been adapted into the Codeway solution offering as Kees Spitters explains: “Codeway’s static and dynamic DWIS systems automate the measurement process, which enables our customers to operate fast, accurate and reliable data acquisition. Both the semiautomated and fully automated Codeway DWIS conveyor-based systems also incorporate Value Added Services Labelling (VAS Labelling). However, the Codeway solution also provides the option of print-and-apply avoiding manual handling for optimum speed and efficiency and enabling specific customer labelling requirements such as ‘FRAGILE’ labels or ‘double shrink wrap’ or a “recipient address.”

All data and associated images are securely stored within a local database offering a full audit trail and the system sends real-time data directly to existing host/3rd party software.

This DWIS solution from Codeway is ideal for internal company inbound and outbound shipping logistics, commercial freight transport and post and courier service “Customers benefit from both speed and accuracy, with manual error removed providing highly accurate capture on each dimension,” adds Kees Spitters. “It enables effective shipment planning and faster processing, along with adherence to all legal and shipment regulations.”

“The solution allows our customers to identify, track and control, helping to avoid delays, returns, complaints and unnecessary costs such as DIM weight back charges” explains Kees Spitters. “With a fully configurable and modular design, the system can be adapted to any warehouse operation with an interface to customers’ legacy software or host system, and for added usability and efficiency it can be powered through USB cable, therefore not requiring a separate power supply.”

Customers have the option of two usage modes: an automatic mode where the packages are measured as soon as they are placed in the field of view plus a user-initiated mode where packages can be measured as soon as the user presses the ‘measure’ button on the software application.

Codeway plans to further adapt the Autocube 8200 solution to its customers wider requirements, with additional options and features.

“Currently we can deliver Autocube with standard Honeywell features with the Codeway DWIS system which is available in December/January.

However, we expect to make it even more box clever by implementing our added value options in 2019, and this will include an option to help customers address packaging waste issues,” adds Kees Spitters.

The creation of an application and database containing the measurements of each traded product can be used when selecting the right size outer (shipping) carton to ship one or multiple products in a consignment. This will potentially reduce packaging materials such as cardboard and fillers and also shipping costs.
