Palletforce has appointed a new general manager for its awardwinning express network operations.

Simon-1

Simon Gibbard will play a key role in the continuing growth of the UK’s leading pallet distribution company, ensuring operational compliance and spearheading creative development across the network.

The 37-year-old is no stranger to Palletforce, however, having previously worked for seven years as its network operations manager.

And he admits the challenge of keeping pace with the rapidly evolving pallet sector was a major factor in his decision to return.

“This area of the industry has seen phenomenal growth over the last few decades, and Palletforce has been at the vanguard of industry change, leading the way with technology, investment in infrastructure and a strong network of members and people,” he said.

“It’s the Palletforce team that have driven this change, and it is they who have set the standard for quality which other networks genuinely aspire to.”

Simon rejoins the company after a 12-month spell as regional manager for Wiltshire-based logistics firm Wincanton, where he worked alongside major national brands, retailers and manufacturers.

His appointment coincides with the announcement of a new “SuperHub” to be built at Palletforce’s headquarters in Burton upon Trent, bringing the total investment in the site to £50m.

When completed in 2017 the 620,000 sq ft development will be the biggest of its kind in Europe, capable of processing in excess of 30,000 pallets per night for distribution across the UK and the continent.

“This is a great time to be involved with the organisation,” Simon said. “We continue to break records every year with our volumes, but the difference between us and our competitors is we are facing the growing pains head on.

“Palletforce is continually investing in the network and the performance to ensure customers remain delighted with their service and continue to trust us with their own growth.”

Palletforce chief executive officer Michael Conroy said: “We are delighted to welcome Simon back to the fold. He has proven pedigree here at Palletforce, and we have no doubt his time in the logistics sector will have provided him with a valuable perspective on the industry as a whole.”
