The manufacturer’s efforts to improve its green status were acknowledged recently at the UK Warehousing Association’s (UKWA) annual award ceremony, where it was presented with the Environment Award.

Hörmann was among nine companies to take accolades at the prestigious ceremony held at the Dorchester, and was commended for its successful application of ‘green’ processes. CO2 emissions across the company’s 16 factories have been reduced by 16,000 tonnes each year through a variety of measures, including the use of renewably generated energy, the installation of combined heat and power plants, and switching from oil to gas heating at some locations.

The company has also worked to reduce the environmental impact of its products. Where possible, raw materials are sourced locally to reduce the impact of transporting goods to manufacturers. Hörmann also provides Environmental Product Declarations for its full range, so customers can easily see the life-cycle impact of each item.

Tom Langley, projects director at Hörmann (UK) Ltd, collected the award for the company. He said: “It’s great to have been recognised for the hard work Hörmann has put in to reduce its carbon footprint. We try to practise what we preach, by not only making our products as green as possible but also ensuring our business does its bit for the environment as well.”

As a commitment to energy efficiency, an ISO 50001 energy management system has also been introduced throughout the Hörmann Group. This includes intelligent building services management to help lower power consumption across the individual plants.

Comprehensive innovation goes into all R&D for the industrial door manufacturer, resulting in products with some of the highest levels of environmental performance on the market.

Managing director David Newcombe, commented: “We have expanded our product range to include some of the most thermally efficient doors on the market, and this is all part of our commitment to helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint just as we reduce our own. We’re incredibly proud of the UKWA award and we are grateful for the recognition.”

Looking towards the future, Hörmann will continue to enhance its green credentials, something the company views as central to maintaining its leading position in the industry.
