FrontAs the schools go back it’s time for the warehouse and logistics industry to go back to class and brush up on fork lift truck safety. Despite increasing awareness, fork lift trucks are still involved in over 800 workplace accidents every year. And their nature and size means these tend to be serious and life-changing events, with injuries including long-bone fractures, dislocations and amputations.

Warehouse & Logistics News is once again proud to be the official media partner for the FLTA’s annual Safety Conference, sponsored by Briggs Equipment and taking place on Wednesday 24 September at the University of Warwick. The FLTA Safety Conference is the focus of this year’s FLTA Safety Week, which runs from 22nd to 28th September and takes the form of an on-going campaign to keep safety front of mind, using the powerful “Killer” message to engage with everyone who works on or around fork lift trucks.

Fork lift safety is crucial – but so too is operating performance. As our front page reveals, hard pressed warehouse managers could soon find it easier to move large loads in tight spaces, now Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks has unveiled its new 80V electric forklift, the EDiA EX, with an impressive lifting capacity for its size. Visibly smaller than others in its 2.5-3.5 tonne capacity range, EDiA EX can bear large loads smoothly up to heights of 7 metres.

As well as being compact, EDiA EX excels in tight spaces because of its unique steering configuration. According to Mitsubishi, EDiA EX could make a “significant difference” to storage arrangements where space is at a premium. Hence warehouse managers could use the new truck to make more efficient use of space, taking larger loads further and higher in the racking. Mindful of the all-important need for safety the new EDiA EX is designed to be fast, productive and safe. It offers a flexible choice of practical drive modes, allowing managers to emphasise economy and safety for inexperienced users or tired operators on long shifts, or call in the experts when the pressure is on.

If you’re going to the FLTA Safety Conference, we’ll see you there. And if you’re not, make sure you read our Supplement. Work safely!
