Movianto UK is part of the Movianto Group, a company operating in 13 European countries providing contract logistics solutions to the pharmaceutical industry. The Group was recently acquired by US based Owens & Minor Inc.

As a result, the Movianto management team was looking for opportunities to increase the efficiency of the UK business. This meant maximising the use of the existing facilities and creating opportunities for further growth.

Within the UK, Movianto operates from a number of warehousing and distribution locations with the head office and main warehouse based in Bedford. The 400,000 sq ft, multi-user Bedford warehouse has a capacity of 66,000 locations ranging from full pallets to cartons.

As part of a wider review of operations, Davies & Robson conducted a bottom up process analysis of the Bedford warehouse and the multi-client operations, with a view to improving the throughput of the building and maximising the use of the available space.

Following its well-proven step-by-step process – information, baseline, simulation, assessment, review – Davies & Robson identified a number of opportunities. By adjusting a few important processes, optimising the use of the existing MHE and identifying which customers and products should be picked from the mezzanine area, it has been possible to improve the utilisation of the building and integrate two new customers in to the existing space.

Russell Atkinson, MD of Movianto UK, said “Davies & Robson brought a new perspective to our operations. Working with the existing team they identified clear, deliverable actions that would improve our utilisation and open up the capacity for new customers.”
