Automated warehouse solutions provider TGW Limited has won the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) Technical Innovations Award for its work with leading publisher and distributor, Wiley.

TGW were responsible for designing, installing and commissioning a fully integrated materials handling solution at Wiley’s European Distribution Centre in Bognor Regis, Sussex last year.

Since going live, the system has enabled Wiley to reduce the working day from three shifts over 16 hours, to two shifts over 10 hours. The number of units processed per hour has increased by over 400% from 3,500 to 14,400.

Delivered on time and on budget, the solution effectively balanced tried and tested book sortation techniques with innovative technology to meet Wiley’s requirements.

The judges considered the joint TGW and Wiley entry to be “the best example of a bold and innovative response to the changing marketplace, which used products and systems that had a net effect on warehousing operations.”

The award was presented to TGW Project Sales Manager Joel Garbutt at a prestigious ceremony at The Dorchester in London on 3 July 2013. Joel said, “We’re delighted to win this award in partnership with Wiley. It highlights the considerable benefits that our technology can deliver to growing organisations and recognises the hard work put in by all the team.”
