Steven Vaughan, Expect Distribution Ltd

Knapp-logoSteve Vaughan joined Expect Distribution in June 2011, when the company’s Halifax site was undergoing a period of transition. In a relatively short period of time, Steve helped turn a loss making cost centre into Expect’s most profitable warehousing site.

“It was clear from the moment he arrived that Steve was determined to make valued judgement calls on where quick wins were available but also to develop and carry out a medium term strategy which would transform the operation, making it efficient, profitable and safe,” reflects Neil Rushworth, Expect’s operations director.

Neil continues: “Steve is structured and determined in his approach and has the courage of his convictions to ensure that what he says will happen actually does happen. He inspires those around him and he leads by example.”

Leigh Brown, Edwards Transport

His colleague, Chris Green, nominated Edwards Transport’s Leigh Brown for the Warehouse Manager of the Year Award. Chris said of Leigh: “I have never come across someone with a management style like Leigh’s – he is very approachable and is like a friend to the staff. He has high standards and expects us to deliver a high level of service for all of our customers. However, while he drives us hard, he is always willing to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in within the warehouse if things are very busy.”

Graham went on to praise Leigh’s attitude towards health and safety and the well-being of his staff, his efforts to reduce Edwards’ CO2 emissions by introducing new energy efficient lighting and the training schemes he has devised and implemented which, in Graham’s words,  have enabled staff “to become stronger employees and individuals.”
