Energy saving measures are being incorporated into many new developments and refurbishment projects. The use of fast action doors to partition buildings and prevent draughts and therefore heat losses has been a successful design choice. Taking this a step further, Hörmann has installed a combination of exterior insulated SPU sectional doors and interior high speed spiral doors to create canopied level access loading areas for Asda.

Interlock-with-HS7030
These loading areas can accommodate two 40ft trailers at once. Two external doors allow trailers to be parked, while three internal doors give forklifts access to both sides of each trailer. The control systems for the door sets are linked to create an interlock. The system only allows internal doors to open if both external doors are closed. Similarly the internal doors must all be closed before either external door will operate, while movement sensors are there to activate the internal doors and traffic lights.

Both the SPU door and the HS7030 high speed spiral door feature 42mm thick, CFC free, rigid polyurethane foam insulation. However the HS7030 also uses this to strengthen to the door. Unlike similar doors, the double skinned panels are linked by hinges which add greater stability, leading to even more reliable operation and increased service life.
