CONVEYOR manufacturer Sovex is going global – with its first sales office and order in China.
The Wirral-based company, which specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of conveyor systems, is expanding into new markets worldwide after securing a series of big European contracts during 2012.
Sovex opened a sales office in Shanghai in December and this was instrumental in securing a £64,000 order for two of its telescopic vehicle loaders to TNT Hoau’s distribution centre in Xiamen, China.
The equipment will be installed in January and is expected to halve the time it takes to load parcels into vehicles for distribution across China.
Sovex’s products are widely used within the parcel industry and TNT is one of Sovex’s extensive list of customers.
Managing director David Lindfield said: “China is an important global player so winning work there is a fantastic way to kickstart 2013 for Sovex.
“Opening a sales office in China was a big and exciting step for Sovex and I’m delighted to say that it’s already paid dividends because there’s nothing better than having someone down on the ground to broker a deal like this.”
Sovex’s expansion into China is part of ambitious international growth plans.
The firm already has a manufacturing facility in Malaysia, in addition to its manufacturing capacity at its Wirral headquarters. Sovex has added a manufacturing facility in Bosnia to better serve new markets in eastern Europe and Russia with Sovex goods and services.
After success at last year’s prestigious trade fair LogiMAT, in Germany, which led to direct sales leads from Israel, the US and India, a team from Sovex will be exhibiting there again this spring.
Mr Lindfield said: “2012 was a great year for us in Europe with some significant business wins. We’re planning on making 2013 a great year for us in the rest of the world.
“LogiMAT was a winner for us last year and we’re planning on building on that success this year. It’s a great way to raise our profile on an international stage which is precisely where we want to be.”
