Unitechnik Cieplik & Poppek AG has launched a new subsidiary in Shanghai. Shortly before CeMAT ASIA (10/29 – 11/1/2012) opens in the 23 million inhabitant metropolis, Unitechnik, the specialist for turnkey intralogistics solutions, is also expanding its business activities in China. The globally active system integrator from Wiehl, Germany believes that rising wage costs and increasing shortages of skilled personnel on the Chinese labor market will trigger a higher demand for automated logistics centers.

In recent years, China has proven to be a major growth market for German intralogistics companies. VDMA, the German Engineering Association, has identified a turnover of one billion Euros for 2011, which is a 40% increase for the industry compared to 2010. Weaker economic expectations for 2012 will slow down this trend, but not stop it. At the same time, wages in China are rising by around 20% every year. It is becoming increasingly difficult for logistics specialists to meet the demand for qualified workers. “In the coastal regions in particular, the lack of skilled labor is already plainly noticeable. Companies in China are thus increasingly investing in automation of production processes and intralogistics. As an experienced contractor, we are supporting this development directly from Shanghai,” says Dr. Michael Hohlrieder, chairman of the Unitechnik management board, in explaining his decision to open the new subsidiary.

Unitechnik does business around the world and recently also completed several projects in China: from coil warehouses for the aluminum industry to precast concrete plants to the logistics processes in the cigarette industry – everything automated by the German intralogistics expert. “By launching a presence in Shanghai, it will be even easier for us to pursue new projects. CeMAT ASIA is the ideal platform from which to present our services as a system integrator and meet with potential customers,” Hohlrieder points out. The trade show is by now firmly established and is currently in its 13th year.
