Battery Managed Solutions Ltd (BMS), the Rotherham-based battery room design and maintenance experts, have broken new ground in motive power maintenance excellence.
As far as they are aware, they are the only UK service provider to achieve both Altius and SafeContractor accreditation for battery room design and build as well as battery maintenance.
The men behind Battery Managed Solutions Ltd are Andy Curtis and Peter Allwood, both former Regional Service Managers at Exide Technologies, where they ran the company’s service activities from the South West up to Scotland and including Ireland. Between them Andy and Peter have 50 years’ experience in the fork truck and lead acid battery industries and a depth of knowledge of battery room management solutions, service and battery contract requirements.
Peter Allwood explains their approach: “Batteries today come with warranties that cover a five year period; invariably they fail to reach that goal without some kind of issue. We have not only achieved this landmark with fleets of batteries that we maintain, but we have realised much, much more and run them over the seven year mark. This has enabled our main customer, a Northern-based supermarket chain to negotiate seven year warranties from two of its battery suppliers, with the added confidence that Battery Managed Solutions will be contracted to maintain them.”
Peter Allwood and Andrew Curtis started Battery Managed Solutions Ltd (BMS) in summer 2009, and their turnover has just hit the £1M mark. BMS’ flagship client is a Northern-based supermarket chain whose batteries and chargers are maintained on a weekly basis. Their service contract involves maintaining the battery and charger requirements for over 5,000 of the retailer’s forklift fleet, in more than 20 distribution centres nationwide.
BMS recently completed battery room design and build projects for the retailer at sites in Bridgwater and Stockton-on-Tees, and have now been appointed to rebuild the battery rooms for their Burton Latimer RDC. They have also completed a major job for Gillette at Reading, through Locators forklifts.
But it’s not just big clients like these that BMS are geared up to service. They can offer equally high quality battery maintenance solutions for everything from a small facility housing two to three batteries to an area large enough for hundreds. They take the same pride in discussing the customer’s requirements, regardless of their size, and designing and delivering the end product to suit the area and the operation, complete with ventilation if required.
