Essex-based haulier, the Canute Group, have today announced the purchase of a modern warehouse facility in Great Blakenham, Suffolk.
The development marks the 12th site to be added to Canute’s expanding portfolio of facilities throughout the UK, following the addition of the Coventry and Warrington depots.
Supporting the Port of Felixstowe, the 105k sq. ft. site will have up to 12,500 pallet spaces, small item picking and bulk stack areas, and Red-Prairie WMS, an optimised pallet storage system with multiple storage options. The site is expected to transship in excess of 150,000 pallets annually.
The acquisition of the Great Blakenham Distribution Facility by the Canute Group demonstrates the company’s drive in continuing to expand its modern supply chain service solutions to its existing and future customer base.
Commenting on the acquisition, Canute’s Group Sales Director, David Emslie, said: “The location of the depot, with its close proximity to Felixstowe Port and the strategic links into the Canute Transport Network, will give the business an excellent opportunity to provide a wide range of competitive services for both warehouse and transport requirements.
“The Ipswich site will be incorporated into Canute’s national distribution network, creating synergies, operational efficiencies, increased capacity and improved customer service.”
The modern facility of the site can provide a ‘Port Centric’ supply chain solution for importers and exporters routing containers through Felixstowe Port.
Newly appointed site manager, Jason Alexander, explained: “We will be applying modern warehouse management techniques which incorporate LEAN principles and a solid culture of continuous improvement throughout all of our operations.
“Our key objective as we move forward will be to instil best practice within our teams, operational excellence in all depot functions, and most importantly to deliver these benefits directly back to our customers through the solutions we provide.”
Based in Purfleet, Essex, The Canute Group is a privately-owned, multi-market service provider with a turnover in excess of £80 million. Established in 1977, the company has developed from a local haulier to a diverse and dynamic network.
