Briggs Equipment is set to become the national supplier of materials handling equipment to the Royal Mail Group after securing a new, multi-million pound, contract.

The leading service provider and distributor of Yale Europe Materials Handling Equipment overcame stiff competition to secure the deal that will see it supply around 600 trucks to Royal Mail and Post Office depots across the UK.

The mixed fleet will include electric, diesel and LPG counterbalance trucks as well as a range of warehouse equipment.

Chris Meinecke, Chief Operating Officer at Briggs, commented: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Royal Mail Group and look forward to delivering real added value to their operations. This is a high-profile contract in a very competitive marketplace and the Briggs team are really looking forward to working pro-actively with the group, who will have a dedicated Briggs team to manage all aspects of their fleet operations.”

In addition to supplying and maintaining the machines on a long-term hire agreement, Briggs will also be responsible for the service and maintenance of the Group’s existing, purchased, equipment.

Chris continued: “The contract also re-enforces our position as one of the country’s leading providers of comprehensive materials handling solutions, backed up by a nationwide network of experienced service engineers.”

The deal is the latest in a series of high-profile contract wins for Briggs Equipment, putting it on course for a record breaking year.

According to the company’s chief executive, Richard Close, the Royal Mail account also reflects Briggs’ growing dominance within the materials handling industry and a growing awareness of the benefits offered by the Yale product range.

“It’s still a tough market, but by combining excellent products with first class service and support, we have experienced a successful first half of the year; as we continue to put our customers’ needs at the heart of our business,” he explained.

News of the deal follows a recent announcement that Briggs is also replacing an existing mixed fleet operated by a leading logistics company supporting the off shore oil and gas industry.

It will supply ASCO with a new 65-strong line-up that includes some of Yale’s largest forklift trucks, as well as very narrow aisle equipment and other materials handling products. Many of the trucks are already in operation at 12 ASCO sites in north-east Scotland, including the company’s Peterhead Offshore Supply Base.

The new fleet includes various Yale GDP diesel-powered ‘big’ trucks and numerous smaller diesel, electric and LPG counter balance and warehouse trucks as well as the acclaimed MTC man-up turret truck for order picking.

Since the turn of the year, Briggs has also delivered the very latest very narrow aisle (VNA) to another major logistics company with further contract announcements to be made in the coming months.

Richard added: “These are exciting times as we continue to expand our operations and increase our market share by winning new business and ensuring that we provide the best possible service to our customers, regardless of their size or nature of business.”
