Linde Forklift Truck Hire is playing its part in promoting an extreme sporting challenge by assisting with the delivery of one of the world’s fastest cars to a range of locations across the UK.

Helping to push the boundaries of science and technology, Bloodhound SCC is a project that aims to set a new World Land Speed Record of 1000mph. Developed over the last three years, the Bloodhound car is powered by a Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine and a hybrid rocket which will be capable of accelerating from rest to 1000 mph and back to rest again in 120 seconds, covering 12 miles during that time.

To promote the project, the full size show car is being displayed at various locations across the UK, starting with the Scottish Parliament Buildings in Edinburgh.

The 13.5 metre long, 3 metre tall supersonic show car had to be transported to the venue in a 14 metre curtain-sided articulated truck and unloaded from the side by a fork lift truck. The Linde engine counterbalance truck, H 50, which has a capacity of five tonnes, was used to carefully unload and manoeuvre the car into position.

Commenting on the success of the first event, Tony Parraman from Bloodhound said:

“It is fantastic for a company like Linde to be supporting our project and providing us with this much needed resource. Knowing that we can rely on them to be there to unload the car wherever we may be takes a huge strain off the team.  And as well as helping to unload the show car at all of our events, they are also supplying a fork lift for the Bloodhound Technical Centre where the car is being assembled, and giving us access to one of their powered pallet trucks, which we will use to move parts of the car around the workshop.”

Linde Forklift Truck Hire has recently added 200 trucks to its already 10,000 strong rental fleet to cope with increasing customer demand in the heavy truck market.

Lorraine Gray, Rental Controller from Linde Material Handling, said:

“With our extensive range of hire trucks, finding a suitable truck for this project was simple.  The capability of our truck, combined with the help of our skilled drivers, ensured that the show car was in safe hands and we look forward to helping with all the other events over the coming months.”
