Potter Group Logistics, experts in logistics for regulated services, has recently announced a two year contract extension with Elanco, the animal health division of Eli Lilly and Company. To fulfil the contract requirements Potter Group Logistics has invested in new temperature control infrastructure and materials handling equipment.

Elanco is a global animal health company which prides itself on rigorous regulatory oversight and quality assurance systems.

The company has had a contract with Potter Group Logistics at its Knowsley Distribution Centre (DC) for the last three years. The original contract was to provide controlled handling and storage of 8,000 pallets of its products for the worldwide market. Included in the contract extension is an additional 4,000 pallets, taking the total to 12,000.

“Besides our knowledge and experience,” explains Matthew Lamb, Managing Director of Potter Group Logistics, “one of the main reasons for Elanco choosing us as a service provider was the location of our specialist DC. Elanco was looking for an expert in controlled logistics for pharmaceutical products close to its manufacturing centre of excellence in Speke. Our DC in Knowsley is ideally positioned in relation to their centre and has all the right credentials to handle the business.

“As part of the extended contract with Elanco, temperature controlled storage was required. In order to tailor our warehouses to these needs we have invested in specific control equipment. Now we can store the products under the three distinct temperature conditions required: chilled (2-8°C), controlled room temperature (15-25°C) and ambient.

“All product stored is controlled under the Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) conditions at Knowsley, where we also operate Good Distribution Practice (GDP).

“To provide the best possible service, we have acquired new materials handling equipment, including counter balance and flexi trucks. In addition the original racking in the designated warehouse has been extended by over 500 locations.”

Potter Group Logistics specialises in regulated logistics and holds a full MHRA dealer’s licence for the storage and distribution of pharmaceutical products. The company is also top tier COMAH accredited for hazardous products.

Potter Group Logistics is a family run business employing more than 200 staff. The company provides high quality, UK freight, warehousing, distribution and logistics services to clients in almost every type of business from five distribution centres in Droitwich, Ely, Knowsley, Ripon and Selby.
