At the beginning of July 2011, the German trading company EDEKA Handelsgesellschaft Südbayern mbH entrusted the general contractor Witron Logistik + Informatik from Parkstein with the planning and realization of a new distribution center for dry goods in Landsberg am Lech (Bavaria). From the first quarter of 2013 onwards, the distribution center is going to supply nearly 1.700 stores with almost 16.000 different SKUs. Furthermore, due to the size of 25.000 m2 it is possible to reach a peak performance by picking 311.000 trading units per day.

In the frame of an Idea Competition, WITRON was able to convince EDEKA of the mechanized logistics systems OPM (Order Picking Machinery), DPS (Dynamic Picking System) and CPS (Car Picking System).

In the future, 14 COMs will allow a fully automatic, store-friendly production of order pallets and roller containers, without staff deployment and with zero picking errors, at the distribution center in Landsberg. The highly dynamic small-parts picking, e.g. cosmetics, drugstore goods or cigarettes, is realized in the shipping containers at 12 ergonomic workplaces via DPS-System. Car Picking System is a voice-guided system for manual pallet picking with automatic replenishment. The system is used for picking of trading units with large volume.
