Toyota Material Handling UK sponsored this years RTITB Operator of the Year Competition in a move to show their commitment to safety in the workplace and the skills of lift truck operators.

The competition, first established in 2008, has been acknowledged as an innovative way in which to allow NORS qualified counterbalance operators the opportunity to showcase their operating skills. At the same time, the competition also acknowledges the hard work and dedication of their trainers.

Taking advantage of sponsoring a nationally recognised competition Toyota supported the competition supplying trucks for each of the National Finals and the Grand Final held at RTITB headquarters in Telford. Toyota also supplied the venue for the Northern England National Final at the Castleford depot as well as supplying the first prize of a brand new Toyota Aygo Ice.

Similar to RTITB, Toyota Material Handling UK has always set the standard in relation to safety in the workplace, not only by providing innovative products, but also through its added value services like operator training.

Tony Wallis, Operations Director for Toyota Material Handling UK commented: “At Toyota we believe that investing in quality operator training can help customers improve safety in the workplace, but also work more productively and align to our programme of helping business to drive down costs”

He added: “During the Grand Final last month operators demonstrated an exceptional amount of skill to carry out the imaginative tasks arranged by the RTITB. The finalists were a huge credit to themselves and their companies. Toyota is committed to reducing workplace accidents and events like this go a long way to raising the profile of safe operating practices.”

In addition to this years sponsorship Toyota Material Handling UK have also committed to attending several Health & Safety shows which have taken place throughout the UK this year and during the FLTA’s Forklift Safety Week offered free Pride in Performance and Manual Handling Guide resource packs, an activity which will be repeated for the European Safety week 24 -28 October.
