Leading warehouse automation supplier KNAPP has enjoyed a record year for sales in 2010/2011, both at group level and here in the UK.

KNAPP AG increased its turnover by a staggering 30% in the year 2010/2011, bumping up the group’s sales revenue to over 272 million Euros. KNAPP UK Ltd also enjoyed a record-breaking year, with sales of over 50 million Euros.

Success at group level was attributed to KNAPP’s concentration on its core competencies – principally automation solutions for the pharmaceutical, food and non-food retail, fashion and cosmetics sectors – and the continuous development of its products. The year 2010/2011 began very well for the group, with a major order for the world’s largest OSR Shuttle™ to date for Hermes Fulfilment, a subsidiary of the Otto Group, in Germany. KNAPP AG, which has some 1,800 employees worldwide, has set a turnover goal of 300 million Euros for the current year.

In the UK, KNAPP managed to secure a number of major orders from existing customers during the year 2010/2011. These included a significant extension to accommodate burgeoning e-commerce growth at John Lewis’s flagship distribution centre in Milton Keynes and significant orders from other existing customers including AAH Pharmaceuticals, Alliance Boots, Cahill May Roberts, Centaur Services, Oakwood Distribution, Ocado, Phoenix Healthcare and United Drug.

We have achieved a number of innovations in logistics in this respect over the years but the potential for logistics improvement is not yet exhausted. The KNAPP group invests heavily in R&D, especially in the fields of software and order picking technology, so we are innovating all the time. Clients are demanding systems that are more and more flexible,” continued David James, “and there are clear signs of a trend towards multichannel distribution with a greater number of B2C deliveries, more frequent B2B deliveries and processing of returns by a single system. This is an area in which KNAPP has considerable expertise, so we are very confident about the future.”
