“You can have all my parcel business but I need to be integrated and operational within the week!” Martin Fisher, Manager of Mail Order Express.com, was very clear about timescales when it came to selecting a preferred parcel carrier back in June this year.  Mail Order Express.com is a pure online retailer but is wholly owned by the Midlands’ largest independent retailer of toys, models, arts and crafts, Dominoes Of Leicester Ltd.

Since 1983, Dominoes Of Leicester have been delighting customers both young and old with their huge range of traditional and modern toys, arts, crafts, models and so much more from their large four storey retail building in the heart of Leicester City. When Parcelhub made initial enquiries about the mode of delivery for online orders, it was Martin Fisher who picked up the details and wanted to know more.

Martin commented: “Although not unhappy with the service I was receiving from my present parcel carrier, in the current economic climate, one just has to be on the lookout for anything that is innovative, cost effective and ultimately makes good business sense. Since 2005 we have invested heavily in new OMS and WMS systems, with the operational efficiencies transferring to the bottom line almost immediately. With the volume of parcel despatches ever increasing, it was cost of delivery that became a priority and time to see what the market was offering.”

After a number of meetings to fully understand Martin’s requirements, Parcelhub proposed to start trading with a simple integrated despatch solution comprising a single carrier service offering 24 to 72 hour domestic services, all fully trackable and supported with on-line tracking and POD’s, and of course Parcelhub’s own in-house Customer Services support team. Once agreed it was down to each company’s IT teams to make it happen. Parcelhub got to grips with MOE’s existing processes and managed to seamlessly integrate client and supplier systems, so the carrier label generation process was automatic at point of order despatch.

Parcelhub Managing Director Mark Rosenberg adds: “We had a good look at MOE’s requirements, and although a multiple carrier option was of course possible there was no real operational and financial benefit, so we opted for a 100% Yodel solution.  Due to volumes, we have Yodel make a trailer collection daily and then run directly to their new sort facility in Wednesbury, where parcels are sorted overnight before being line hauled to service centres for delivery to the consignee. By working closely with the carrier and the client we were able to facilitate a complete change of working with a new carrier and integrated software, all within a week!”
