Barnack Storage & Logistics Ltd has completed implementation of a full real time warehouse management solution at their Peterborough operation. The solution combines Empirica, the leading WMS from Chess Logistics Technology with Belgravium’s Atlanta handheld computer to deliver improved performance across the full spectrum of warehouse activity.
Barnack Storage & Logistics Ltd is an expanding third party logistics provider based in Peterborough. Operating from an 100,000 sq ft shared-user warehouse at Orton Southgate, they provide storage and value added services to a growing client base which includes small manufacturers, retailers and multinationals in industries as diverse as confectionery, fashion and engineering.
Formed in 1986, Barnack Storage & Logistics has achieved year on year growth as a result of their customer focused approach to business. Barnack recently implemented the Empirica WMS from Chess Logistics Technology, a system whose functionality and flexibility can support continued growth and help them maximise customer service quality. It offers extensive wireless LAN-based real time operation for all routine processes including receiving, putaway, picking and despatch.
Chess worked closely with leading mobile computing specialist Belgravium on the second phase of the project which involved implementation of wireless networks and mobile equipment. The intuitive Empirica solution operates on the Belgravium Atlanta handhelds to provide Barnack staff with real-time task instructions and mobile access to key warehouse functions like stocktaking.
The combined solutions offer many benefits. Accuracy is a key gain, with all stock movements verified in real time, while efficient, paper free processes result in increased productivity. Constant real time information makes management control of operations tighter and more responsive when needed, and the disciplined processes used by the WMS ensure better utilisation of both personnel and equipment.
