The United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) has announced the appointment of John Maguire, sales and marketing director of Flexi Narrow Aisle Ltd, as its new Chairman.

He replaces Derrick Potter, chairman of The Potter Group, who served as the Association’s chairman for four years.

John Maguire commented: “I am both delighted and honored to take on the role of UKWA Chairman. Following in the footsteps of Derrick Potter who has led the Association so expertly and with unstinting commitment and passion for the last four years will be no easy task, but I will endeavor to carry on Derrick’s excellent work and, in doing so, ensure that the Association continues to evolve to meet the ever changing needs of the modern logistics industry.”

Roger Williams, Chief Executive Officer of UKWA, commented: “John’s appointment represents something of a departure from the traditional profile of a UKWA chairman in so far as he is the first representative from a company whose core-business is not third party logistics, to take up the position. UKWA’s ranks have swollen significantly in recent years thanks to an influx of a host of materials handling equipment and service providers and this is helping to ensure that UKWA achieves its stated aim of becoming representative of the whole supply chain community.

John Maguire has held several senior posts within the materials handling industry and is widely known for his warehouse system design expertise. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
