For the loading and unloading of goods vehicles at sites without raised docks, Transdek UK’s latest product release, the V2G (Vehicle-To-Ground) Loading System, offers operators a step-change advance in handling technology with enhanced efficiency, safety and security.

First released in late 2010, the V2G is already making significant inroads in to the retail sector. Transdek has begun fitting V2G’s throughout Tesco’s flat-floor stores, and has also received orders from two other major supermarket groups.

Many retail outlets, in particular, have flat-floor service yards which require some form of lift to unload and reload delivery vehicles. As an updated alternative to the conventional scissor lifts used at these sites, the V2G offers a number of key developments.

The V2G is installed directly on to the yard slab within a single day, without the requirement for any pre-dug pits or other costly enabling works. Supplied as a pre-clad, pre-tested loadhouse unit, Transdek’s unique loading system provides a ready-made temperature-controlled and secure environment between vehicles and the warehouse.

“The V2G also offers a high level of future-proofing for distribution operators”, says Leon Butler, Operations Director of Transdek UK. “Because of its extended lift stroke and unique hydraulics configuration, it can service any mix of delivery vehicles: both the single deck trailers of today, and the growing double deck fleets of tomorrow.

“And the same design features that enable the V2G’s rapid installation also allow us to relocate the units quickly and cost effectively, giving our customers the flexibility to adapt to changing market demands and new technologies, and to save downstream costs.”

Transdek has proven the usefulness of this ‘relocatability’ factor in its work with Boots and M&S, where the company moved lifts between sites and bays, sometimes multiple times, to allow supply chain restructuring and site renovations.

“In terms of loading speed, the V2G performs very well, too”, says Mr Butler. “It can unload a full vehicle in less than 45 minutes, the equivalent time allowed with raised docks and dock levellers at most retail sites. Based on Transdek’s Design4Safety Award-winning design, the product also includes a comprehensive range of features designed to support operator safety and efficiency.”
