Warehouse automation specialist KNAPP will use CeMAT, Germany’s key logistics exhibition, to reveal its brand-new concept of free-roaming shuttles – an innovative addition to its OSR Shuttle™ range.

The exhibition’s organisers have chosen ‘Sustainability in Intralogistics’ as the slogan for the 2011 show, which takes place in Hannover from 2 – 6 May, and this theme will be very much in evidence on KNAPP’s stand (D24 in Hall 27).

Says Craig Rollason, Head of Sales & Marketing for KNAPP UK, “This is a key exhibition for KNAPP, so we’re investing in an impressive presence, with two complete systems live and operational on the stand to demonstrate to visitors the quality and efficiency of KNAPP’s automated warehouse solutions.”

When it comes to energy efficiency and environmental credentials, KNAPP’s OSR Shuttle™ is hard to beat among automatic storage systems. The solution requires less than 10% of the energy consumed by a conventional automated small parts warehouse. In addition to energy recuperation from the braking process, the OSR Shuttle™ employs sophisticated software to reduce the required connected loads and ongoing power needs, without any loss of performance in the storage system. A key reason for the energy efficiency achieved is the low weight of the individual shuttles, each weighing barely more than the load it transports. In addition to its energy efficiency, the OSR Shuttle™ also offers ultra high storage capacity and extremely fast retrieval times, making it the ideal solution not only for storage, but also for consolidation, sequencing, buffering, picking and handling of returns. Now KNAPP’s innovative ‘All-in-Shuttle’ concept – designed to reduce the number of technologies required in the modern warehouse – is to be expanded by the addition of free-roaming shuttles, which will be exhibited for the very first time at CeMAT. Transporting loads without the need for rails, the free-roaming shuttle can exit the storage aisles to supply workstations directly. With further product development, this brand-new breed of shuttle has the potential to make fixed conveyor systems a thing of the past.

New ergonomic workstations

As part of its KiDesign programme to elevate the profile of ergonomics, ergo-dynamics and multi-functionality in goods-to-person solutions, KNAPP will also reveal its new ‘Pick-it-Easy’ workstations at CeMAT. Three different stations – special solutions for folded garments in the fashion sector and food and retail applications – will be presented on the KNAPP stand. The Pick-it-Easy range considers a multitude of ergonomic aspects, yet features absolutely no loss in picking performance. Combined with an intelligent control system, error-free preparation of up to 1,000 orders per man-hour can be achieved. With a touch screen at the centre of the station, the operator is able to keep his or her head straight and benefits from an ideal visual angle, with every process identified at a single glance.
