It is no secret that the past two to three years have been challenging for most industries. Pallet networks have seen many of the core industries they supply, suffer shrinkage.

However, Pall-Ex is delighted with how they have navigated these troubled times, and in particular with last year’s significant growth. Adrian Russell MD states “Our commitment to delivering the best possible quality of service in our sector, has really paid dividends. Our membership is stronger than ever, and they have produced significant growth, whilst maintaining standards and controlling overheads. We have won key business in new markets and the outlook for our network is extremely encouraging.”

The opening of the state of the art non drive through hub back in 2003, was seen as a risk by many. In truth, it was a shrewd investment on the part of Hilary Devey, founder and CEO of Pall-Ex, and has strengthened their status as the number one for quality and service in the sector. The commitment to quality has been acknowledged recently, with the achievement of a network wide ISO 9001:2008 certification.

Hilary Devey, commented “I have always believed the most important element for our winning strategy, was to deliver the absolute best in quality of service, with innovative packages. I am thrilled that we are the only pallet network to have this accreditation across the whole membership.”

Pall-Ex have ensured they have all the regular services expected from a leading network, with premium and standard services and quarter, half and full pallet rates, along with multi pallet packages.

On top of this, Pall-Ex have developed a bespoke service for retailers, called retail plus+, which allows for a decant of the stock direct into the storeroom. This is proving very popular and has attracted leading high street names, as it not only keeps front of house staff, front of house, it also provides a perfect just in time stock control system.

Eco drive is another ground breaking bespoke service, whereby the inbound delivery vehicle collects certain recyclable waste streams. (See www.pallex.com/ecodrive for more details) Anand Assi, Projects Director confirmed “At Pall-Ex we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and wish to spearhead sustainable pallet distribution. Our first step was to develop our ecodrive service along with likeminded members and customers. More and more businesses are having to look at their green credentials and we feel this really sets us apart within the industry and is already attracting new business to our network”

A huge investment has been made in developing an industry ground breaking new IT system, which is being piloted in this first quarter, for launch in the spring. Sean Sherwin Smith IT director says “The system has been designed in line with our objective of delivering an industry leading logistics solution for our growing and valued member network and customer base.”

Customers now expect as standard an easy to navigate customer log in with real time track and trace and POD. The TWINE launch is imminent and will set the standard for the industry in true Pall-Ex fashion.

Pall-Ex are not just content with leading the sector in the UK and are furthering their ambition to be the leading pan-European freight distribution network. With Pall-Ex Italia already a roaring success, more expansion is planned with Pall-Ex Iberia launching in the spring, which will be closely followed with networks opening in Romania, Germany, Benelux, France and Turkey. Pall-Ex have without doubt established themselves as a quality business, who do not rest on their laurels. The next few years will surely see more success and awards.
