As part of ongoing development of the business and premises of Astec Conveyors Limited, based in Swadlincote – Derbyshire, the company has announced the completion of a major refurbishment to the factory and offices that has taken months to complete.

Having acquired the site back in 2002 from a former fabrication company, Astec set about expanding the facilities to create more storage and workspace area with the introduction of a new 4000 sq ft mezzanine floor. This was shortly followed by the introduction of a £165k Trumpf CNC Punch and a new 160 tonne Bystronic CNC brake press, plus pre-treatment and powder coating plant that made them totally self sufficient in the design and manufacturing of conveyor modules, bespoke equipment and complete turnkey materials handling systems in-house.

This final stage of the development plan has seen a total transformation of the building’s exterior, including new brickwork, hardware fittings and complete re-cladding and insulation to eco specifications. As part of the plan, additional clear roof panels allowed for a 20% increase in natural daylight and contributed to savings in the carbon footprint.

Internally, the original offices have been totally gutted to provide a new feature reception area, modern offices and meeting rooms that maximize on the amount of natural light the interior receives.

Adrian Smart, Astec Conveyors Managing Director reported, “When we decided to acquire and move to the current site, we had a strategic plan for the future of Astec Conveyors and that was to invest and become totally self sufficient and provide a proficient  ‘one-stop source’ for conveyors and integrated material handling solutions.

With major investment in the manufacturing side of our business completed, the time was right to refurbish the exterior of the factory to reflect the commitment and professionalism of the operation, whilst modernising internal working conditions to create an attractive environment in which to work.

Everything is managed in-house, even down to undertaking functional design and electrical specifications.

Astec Conveyors work very closely with the customer to provide scheduled servicing arrangements as required and where necessary, have even been called upon to relocate equipment and production lines within a factory or even to other sites.
