myton-rixYorkshire shipping, transport and insurance law firm Myton Law has advised Hull-based Rix Shipping Co Limited on a multi-million contract for the provision of stevedoring and logistics services to Stora Enso Timber UK Ltd.

The long term agreement will see Stora Enso Timber UK use Rix Shipping’s terminal at Alexandra Dock, part of the Port of Hull, as the main UK entry point for its timber products from Europe. Rix will discharge the timber from the in bound vessels, provide storage and manage onward distribution throughout the UK.

Launched in January this year, Myton Law is pleased to be quickly establishing itself as a specialist provider of legal advice to the region’s international trade, shipping, transport and insurance sector via its work for major companies like Rix Shipping, says director John Habergham.

He said, “Rix Shipping is a long established, highly regarded and innovative shipping and ports services business so Myton Law is delighted to have had the opportunity to support Rix in arriving at this agreement with Stora Enso Timber.

“The stevedoring contract is a significant business win for Rix Shipping, a positive development for the Port of Hull and just the type of specialist shipping, transport and international trade work towards which our legal expertise is geared.”

Commenting on the contract Tim Rix, managing director of JR Rix & Sons Limited said, “Stora Enso required an efficient port based handling and storage facility based on the Humber as a main hub for their UK timber imports. Rix have risen to this challenge by using our Alexandra Dock Terminal in Hull and making a significant investment in a specialist timber racking system and state of the art forklift trucks, all of which make maximum use of shed space and very fast pick a pack forwarding.

“With an investment as large as this it was imperative that we took the correct legal advice. Myton Law with their specialist team understood our requirements and have done a very professional job with which we are delighted.”

The Rix Shipping business, a JR Rix & Sons Limited company, includes a fleet of dry cargo ships, a fleet of estuarial and coastal tankers, shipping agents, a freight forwarding operation, haulage contractor, stevedoring services and terminal operators.
