dsc_0163Lifting equipment manufacturer, Demag Cranes & Components Ltd, has reinforced its commitment to quality, health & safety and the environment with successful certification under three key industry standards. Hot on the heels of the renewal of its ISO 9001 quality management systems’ certificate, Demag has received certification to the environmental standard BS EN ISO 14001 and the health & safety standard OHSAS 18001.

Demag is one of the first companies within the UK materials handling sector to achieve full integration of these three standards. The certification follows a period of vigorous self assessment and step by step recognition under the LRQA’s Progressive Route Into Systems’ Management (PRISM).

Demag has held certification of its quality management systems for nearly 25 years. The recent integration of the relevant health & safety and environmental standards represents Demag’s commitment to its workforce, its customers and the communities in which it operates.

In an industry which has potential for workplace accident and injury, not least in terms of the risk of working at height, an effective occupational health & safety management system is critical to the well being of employees, contractors and third parties. In achieving certification to OHSAS 18001, Demag has demonstrated a structured approach to hazard identification, risk assessment and documentation, to create safer working environments.

The company’s certification to ISO 14001 is testament to its corporate social responsibility strategy. Demag is committed to the efficient use of resources, reducing waste and minimising environmental impact within the communities in which it operates.

Jennifer Cross, Demag’s Quality, Safety and Environmental Executive, stated: “Our LRQA certification to these standards is an accolade for the company, demonstrating that we are leading the way in our sector. We are sending a message to engineering companies, throughout the UK, that Demag’s unparalleled reputation, for the quality of its products and services, is backed by management innovation, business integrity and corporate responsibility.”
