15The search is now on for the North West’s Professional Truck Driver of the Year. – Mantra Learning – the Logistics and Transport sector learning and people development specialist – in association with the Road Haulage Association, Skills for Logistics and the Freight Transport Association, is hosting a prestigious awards scheme to celebrate the industry’s best truck drivers.

Taking place on 26th September at Mantra’s impressive Manchester training facility the awards scheme finals will celebrate the region’s most talented truckers in the following categories: ‘Most Skilled Manoeuvring’, ‘Best on Road’ and ‘Best Customer Service’, as well as crowning a North West ‘’Best Truck Driver of the Year’’, who will become an industry ambassador. Winners will be selected from both Cat C1&E (Class 1) and Cat C (Class 2) drivers across all categories.

Entries are being accepted from employers who would like to nominate drivers from their own company and also from self employed truck drivers who feel they have what it takes to become best in class in the prestigious new award scheme.

To enter, simply log onto www.mantralearning.co.uk, and complete the brief online form, or call 0161 653 5767 for more information and ask for Richard Tavini.

Finalists will be shortlisted from all entries received by the award scheme organisers and these talented truckers will be invited to compete at September’s showcase event. Finalists will be put into real life driving scenarios in Mantra vehicles and their skills will be put to the test on collecting goods: picking up pallet loads etc and their masterful manoeuvring on the specially-designed Mantra manoeuvring pad.

There’s also a test module using Telematics where the cream of the region’s professional truck drivers will be scrutinised on their mode of driving and fuel efficiency, on a set route on the local roads surrounding Mantra’s North Manchester HQ.

Crucial customer service skills outside of the cab are then assessed by the judging panel as the drivers return to the Mantra HQ site to deliver their goods and take part in real life scenarios that call for impressive customer service expertise.

The finalists’ practical test drives will be complemented by a theory questionnaire that will assist the judging panels in selecting the best in class in all of the award scheme categories.

Exciting prizes are on offer for the North West Truck Driver of the Year: the Cat C1&E (Class 1) overall winner will not only receive 35 hours of DCPC training, but also a prestigious set of King Dick Tools in a Lista cabinet worth £2,000.  The Cat C (Class 2) Truck Driver of the Year will also receive 35 hours of DCPC training along with £1,000 worth of tools. Category winners will all receive 7 hours’ Drivers CPC training.

Phil Barker, Development Manager at Mantra Learning, said:  ‘’Nominating one of your drivers for this prestigious award is your opportunity to offer them recognition for going above and beyond the industry’s expectations.  To be able to say your company’s drivers were shortlisted or won an awards scheme backed by some of the sector’s highest profile bodies, will quite simply lift your business head and shoulders above the competition. The same goes for self employed drivers, who will find themselves with an invaluable USP.’’

On finals day, entrants will also have an opportunity to view a selection of state of the art trucks featuring the latest technology and there will also be workshops/information exchanges with RHA and Skills for Logistics representatives.
