benjamin_and_mike_davies_jpgTwo youngsters, 3 year old Benjamin Davies and his 10 month old brother Edward, opened a new warehouse building for Skipton-based Principle Healthcare International, commemorating the occasion by cutting a ribbon and presenting casts of their hands for posterity. The boys are the grandsons of Group Managing Director, Mike Davies, who views their involvement as a symbol of the company’s bright future. The official opening was at the company’s headquarters in Millennium Road, before an invited audience of staff and other guests.

Formed in 2002 by a team of healthcare industry professionals, the Principle Healthcare Group is now one of the UK’s leading producers of vitamins, minerals and supplements, covering a range of compounds from A to Z. It has the expertise and capacity to manufacture and supply products in a variety of formats, including coated, uncoated, effervescent and chewable tablets, pastilles, capsules, dextrose and liquids, for private label contracts and its own international brands.

“Thanks to the sustained growth of the Principle Healthcare business both at home and abroad, we have had real space and storage issues for a while now,” says Mike Davies. “Since stockholding, service and prompt supply to our customer base are key priorities, we just had to extend our warehouse and distribution facilities. We have continued to increase the number of people employed in Skipton, which now total 53, and the extra space should permit further growth.”

Adjacent to the existing head office, the new warehouse extension provides an extra 6265 square feet (528m2) of space and is linked by covered walkway to the existing building, the foundations having been raised so that the floor heights match. Built on two levels, with a ground floor warehouse and 1658sq ft (154m2) mezzanine, it houses multi-level racking for holding hundreds of different product lines and features spacious despatch bays for easy loading and unloading. The project included the addition of new offices in the existing block, exploiting the extra floorspace made available.

“I’m delighted that my grandsons, Benjamin and Edward, performed the opening ceremony, especially as their father, Phil, and uncle, Andrew, also work for the company,” says Mike Davies. “We make health supplements for children, teenagers, adults and the elderly, so we are a very family-oriented business, with a strong sense of family amongst the staff, so what could be more appropriate than the next generation taking a prominent role in our next development phase.”
