shutterstock_51667309Pallet management experts EMS (UK) Ltd have won the contract to manage all UK pallet movements for the wine producing giant Constellation Wines Australia and Europe.

The producer had previously been using a major pallet pool to manage their network of pallet flows in the UK, but when this contract came to an end, Constellation decided not to renew it. Having heard about EMS (UK) Ltd, they contacted them to discuss the company taking over this vital part of their supply chain.

Laura Tuckwell, Operational Purchasing Manager at Constellation Europe Ltd, explained why the company took this decision: “Having seen our costs for pallets increase over the last few years, Constellation Wines decided not to renew our contract with CHEP CEM and looked for alternatives in the market. EMS (UK) Ltd was selected following successful contract negotiations, and quickly set about drilling down into our business to ensure every single pallet flow we make and receive was captured. Pallet management is complex, and EMS has the knowledge and expertise to ensure that all data required is being captured.

“Since EMS came on board, there has been a real reduction in our costs, and I am very happy with the results so far. The management fee for EMS was significantly less than what we had been paying, and EMS’s focus is 100% in Constellation’s favour. The EMS Turnkey Pallet Management product has allowed us to re-allocate resources to focus on our core business, with the peace of mind that our pallet pool is being managed to its optimum.”

William Bell, Business Director of EMS (UK) Ltd commented: “This is a massive contract win for our company. Having worked for CHEP previously, we always believed there was a huge market for our type of operation, outsourcing the complexities of pallet management from companies so they can focus on their core business and not worry whether a large invoice will be coming due to pallet mismanagement.”

EMS’s experienced team have an unrivalled knowledge of the requirements needed for effective equipment management. EMS (UK) Ltd guarantee their clients no pallet losses once their control procedures have been written and are being followed by all personnel involved in the supply chain.

Terence Costigan, Director of EMS (UK) Ltd added: “In one hundred percent of the companies we work for, we have proved to be cost neutral to their business due to the knowledge and focus we bring. Some equipment management providers have produced case studies where they seem pleased about reducing losses by forty or fifty percent. At EMS we are adamant that actual pallets are rarely lost; what is getting lost is the control of pallets when the proper procedures are not in place to capture the relevant data about them. Given the strict time constraints now being imposed by equipment providers, it is imperative for companies to ensure they have their pallet management disciplines in order.”

EMS (UK) Ltd manages equipment for nearly 50 companies in the UK, Ireland and Europe, including Red Bull UK and Foster’s Wines.
