hormannHörmann has been awarded two prestigious Red Dot Design Awards for the sophisticated design of their ASR40 and ALR Vitraplan industrial doors.

Since 1955 the Red Dot awards have been highlighting outstanding international design. This year the international panel of experts have been deciding over 4,200 products, entered for the product design awards, by 1,600 companies from 57 countries.

The truly international entry to the awards show its vitality and importance. To receive two awards in one year for the aesthetic appearance and architectural design options for commercial property is a testament to the hard work put in by the new product development team at Hörmann.

Designed to blend in with the glazed facades of many modern buildings, the frame construction of the ASR 40 features a fine uniform profile and invisible section seams to make it indistinguishable from the fixed elements of the facade. The design allows for more natural light and is ideal for showrooms or exhibition areas allowing an unimpeded view.

The ALR Vitraplan is based on the frame of the ASR door but features flush-fitting, wide panel  glazing. The door frame is completely hidden so visually nothing detracts from the glazed appearance currently available in grey and brown options as favoured by many current designs.

Both of these doors feature Hörmann’s 26mm thick Duratec synthetic scratch resistant glazing which has up to 20% better thermal insulation than standard 16mm glazing. A triple glazing option is available as well as the standard double glazed units. Hormann have previously won a Red Dot award, in 2007, for the HSD key ring hand transmitter for their domestic garage door and gate operators.

Functionality, reliability and value for money have been the key elements in the success of Hörmann in both the industrial and domestic markets. Bringing  award winning design to their product development offers architects better aesthetic options safe in the knowledge that product quality is second to none.
