Welcome to the April 15th Warehouse & Logistics News. No doubt about it -things are warming up all round. Spring’s here at last, and the temperature is creeping upwards: there’s an election on the way, and the politicians are out there vote chasing: in business, people are beginning to talk about good forward orders in the second half of 2010. In short, life in the UK is starting to feel good again.
It’s business as usual at Warehouse & Logistics News. In this issue we’ve got our Multimodal 2010 Preview. We’ve also got scheduled features on Buildings & Facilities and Warehouse IT. Buildings & Facilities looks at main structures and key equipment, including temporary structures. Warehouse I.T. brings you the latest on RFID, barcodes, readers, scanners, tags, labels and handheld technology.
The next big excitement on the warehouse and logistics calendar is the Multimodal 2010 show, taking place at the Birmingham NEC from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 April. Last year’s Multimodal attracted a host of shippers and manufacturers to the Birmingham’s NEC. Despite the gloomy economy, there were plenty of service providers, OEMs and major infrastructure developments on show, and a good turnout to see them.
The UK warehouse and logistics industry is well served by some strong exhibitions. Multimodal is the only event serving the needs and interests of shippers, lines, airlines, ports, rail companies and haulage companies in the UK. The breadth of its scope – the whole supply chain – means it offers a unique forum for sourcing warehouse and logistics products to cover all modes of transport.
Also in this issue we profile OCS Checkweighers, and interview Dr Kurt Arnold, Head of the OCS Checkweighers mail and logistics business unit at OCS Checkweighers’ parent company Wipotec. Today’s high-throughput mail and parcels environment necessitates ultra-efficient methods to reduce costs and avoid price increases, while striving to find new solutions to generate revenue. Standing out among the many vendors, OCS Checkweighers deliver multiple turnkey solutions based on the latest generation of reliable, rugged, in-motion scales, certified to exacting standards. OCS’ Dimensioning Weighing Scanning solutions for large-scale mail and logistics operations lead the world in helping parcel shippers and other high-volume, just-in-time inventory performers to meet the demands of increased competition in the logistics marketplace.
With recent projects carried out for Tier 1 parcels carriers including UPS and TNT, OCS’s solutions help clients meet their ‘legal for trade’ obligations and recover substantial revenue that could otherwise be lost.
Happy reading!
