pf6571Innovative Automotive Logistics Application helps DHL keep the Production Line Running While Reducing CO2.Parsec Systems, an innovative UK based Solutions Developer, has announced details of a successful project for DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics arm of DHL, which is helping to ensure thousands of parts per day are delivered to a major automotive manufacturer’s various manufacturing facilities across Europe.

Built from the ground up and designed for secure, thin client access, Parsec designed and developed a planning solution that generates routes and load plans to ensure the factory production line is always supplied with parts.

“The complexity of the project and the need to ensure security and availability of systems to customers across a wide geographic region was a very challenging and interesting problem,” comments Paul Field, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Parsec Systems.

Parsec developed software based around a hosted model with planners logging into the core logistics and process management system via thin clients or PC’s. The system manages demand flow for the short and medium term in conjunction with other back office support systems creating an optimised model based on the client’s requirements and service levels agreements.

“Our solution is able to deliver real benefits including reduced per item shipping costs, on time deliveries and reporting to help ensure that agreed service levels are met,” explains Field.

Thousands of parts are collected each day from suppliers across Europe and distributed to manufacturing facilities as part of the contract. With the help of the system, DHL has managed to ensure that the client’s fleet have the most efficient load volumes to reduce wasted journeys and avoid penalties for late deliveries.

“Parsec have helped to create a solution that allows us to meet the needs of the client while providing a base for us to implement our green business practices and best-in-class supply chain,” comments Martin Neil, CIO Mainland Europe at DHL Supply Chain.

DHL is the global market leader in the logistics industry and commits its expertise in international express, air and ocean freight, road and rail transportation, contract logistics and international mail services to its customers. A global network composed of more than 220 countries and territories and 310,000 employees worldwide offers customers superior service quality and local knowledge to satisfy their supply chain requirements.

“Our work with DHL is a great example where working closely with a client and gaining a deep understanding of processes allows us to create an innovative system design which delivers real results,” comments Field.

UK based Parsec was founded in 2007 by Paul Field and has worked on a range of highly complex projects for major clients within Logistics and Financial services. The firm is also called upon as an outside “fire-fighter” to help bring rogue projects back on track or to provide independent guidance in extremely specialist or complex areas around business process logic design and large systems integration.

“There has been a move towards commodity development and use of rich open source components, but generating real ‘cutting edge’ solutions still requires highly skilled, technical and innovative people and projects like the one at DHL are text-book examples where ‘off-the-shelf’ just couldn’t do the job,” Field concludes.
