exhibition-2The International Materials Handling Exhibition (IMHX) is the UK’s premier logistics event, showcasing thousands of products and services from the materials handling, storage and distribution sectors.

IMHX 2010 takes place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from 16-19 November. Spanning halls 18, 19 and 20, the show is yet again set to include the industry’s major players and will be brimming over with ideas to reduce handling costs and improve logistics efficiency.

Huge range of exhibits

Over 150 exhibitors are already signed up for the show, which is expected to feature over 300 exhibitors in total. Sponsored by materials handling finance specialist, Albury Asset Rentals Ltd, IMHX 2010 will demonstrate to visitors all kinds of materials handling and storage equipment, as well as health & safety solutions, software systems, property & warehousing, recruitment & training services, third party logistics, transport & distribution, flooring, packaging and financial services.

AMHSA pavilion

IMHX has recently announced a special zone within the 2010 show exclusively for automated handling suppliers, in association with the Automated Material Handling Systems Association (AMHSA). The AMHSA pavilion will feature a number of exhibitors in stands arranged around a central hospitality area. Many of the automated system suppliers at the 2010 show are exhibiting for the third successive time. “It is undoubtedly the biggest UK materials handling show, in terms of footfall and exposure,” comments Phil Makowski, Marketing Manager for automated solution provider, Dematic.

Food & drink logistics suppliers’ pavilion

Another zone at IMHX will be dedicated to logistics suppliers in the food and drink industry. The food & drink logistics suppliers’ pavilion – sponsored by the Food Storage & Distribution Federation (FSDF) – will also feature a hospitality area surrounded by small stands. Explains Rob Fisher, Event Director for IMHX, “Food and drink is an incredibly important sector for the UK handling industry and – if we include third party logistics providers, wholesalers and retailers – decision-makers from this sector account for over 4,000 IMHX visitors.”

Carbon-neutral show

A third special area at IMHX will be the Environment Zone, sponsored by Shell Gas (LPG). In a move unprecedented in UK logistics shows, organiser Quartz is working towards IMHX being a carbon-neutral event by offsetting the carbon produced by staging the show and by visitor travel to the venue. The Environment Zone, a green-styled open lounge area, will include terminals at which each visitor can offset his or her carbon footprint of travel to and from the show – at no cost to themselves – using a web-based carbon calculator.
