scotsolve-image-commercial-pr-0027-a-4Troax’s Toledo cleanroom partitioning system has been used to create a new cleanroom complex for Semefab (Scotland) Ltd at its fabrication plant in Glenrothes, Scotland.  Semefab is a leading manufacturer of semiconductors used in automotive, telecommunications, industrial, consumer and medical markets.

The new Semefab facility is part of a £13.2 million investment initiative, in conjunction with Scottish Enterprise and the Department of Trade and Industry, to help the UK regain its position as a leading force in the development of MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems – miniature sensors used in applications such as routing telephone calls across networks, controlling the deployment of airbags in cars and the display of pictures across flatscreen televisions).

Cleanroom installation specialist Scotsolve used Troax’s Toledo partitioning system to construct the 600 sq metre cleanroom complex which is used for MEMS processing.

The cleanroom complex is divided into five units.  Each two-room unit consists of a ‘service chase’ where the heavy working parts of the production equipment are located, linked to the cleanroom itself. The two rooms are completely segregated and sealed off by a dividing wall (also constructed from Toledo), with the production equipment protruding through the wall into the cleanroom where the fascia is located – the partitioning has been precision cut in order to meet the outline of the equipment to create a complete seal.

A central corridor, linking all the rooms in the facility was also installed; fire-rated doors with double-glazed panels from Troax’s Excalibur range, have been installed at intervals along the 20 metre long corridor in order to comply with fire regulations.

Scotsolve has been using Troax’s Toledo partitioning regularly for over two years, not only because of its consistently high quality, but also due to the excellent service that they receive from Troax, as Lenny Beveridge from Scotsolve explains: “We’ve used Troax for a couple of years now and they’re completely reliable – they’ve never let us down. What particularly impresses us is that we are able to keep in regular contact with their designer who visits the site and produces a full set of working drawings. It’s easy to speak to the designer to make any changes as the project progresses so that we can create exactly the right solution for our client.”

Toledo partitioning is a medium specification system cleanroom system; of monobloc construction, it uses inert and non-particle shedding finish and incorporates a number of design features to prevent the collection of particles and ensure easy-to-clean, smooth surfaces. Its two line junction has a flush line cover channel and a flush line double glazing system, resulting in minimal ledges and corners and flush surfaces.
