flta-a4-safety-poster-2-press-1The FLTA is encouraging individual workers throughout the materials handling industry to play their part in improving fork lift truck safety.

More that 400 people every year are hospitalised or killed in fork lift truck accidents…  and with National Fork Lift Safety Week just around the corner, it’s a perfect chance to spread the word to colleagues, friends and even family – whether by printing and putting up posters from www.fork-truck.org.uk, distributing email links to safety video footage and even calling local radio stations with requests to mark the week.

FLTA Chief Executive David Ellison says: “The theme of this year’s Safety Week is Look Out For Each Other.

“That means fork lift truck operators and pedestrians making allowances for each others’ possible mistakes, but it also asks people to take personal responsibility for spreading the word, and giving others the information they need to stay safe.

“After all, fork lift trucks are everywhere – and when there’s a serious accident, it’s usually not the operator who’s injured.

“Please do visit the website, but also look out for other ways of passing the message on – look out for us on Facebook and Twitter, and maybe even let your local press and radio know. Be creative – and above all, be safe.”
