abu-dhabi-visit-1-019The Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register (ITSSAR) recently welcomed its first Middle East client as a Category 2 training provider.

The Logistics Academy was set up by Royal Decree in the United Arab Emirates and in conjunction with the Armed Forces General Headquarters to meet the logistical education and training requirements of the UAE military and industry.

The Academy, is situated near Abu Dhabi on the main road to Dubai and no expense has been spared in equipping the Academy with the latest in MHE technology. ITSSAR training standards advisor Grahame Tobin who conducted the visit said “I have yet to see a training centre that is set up to such a high standard, including variety of equipment, instructional staff and management”.

At present the Academy will provide operator training on the following equipment PPT, ROPT, Counterbalance Lift Truck groups B1, B2 and B3, Reach Truck, and VNA man up as well as overhead crane and ancillary equipment.

There are many classrooms available at the centre to deliver a variety of courses including non MHE syllabus.  All classrooms are large and air conditioned, and the extensive teaching facilities include smart boards, modern IT equipment and WiFi internet access. A fully equipped warehouse management centre will provide education and training on computerised warehouse management systems and current warehousing techniques.

There are four practical training areas all equipped with an overhead crane, full size racking system and a vast amount of floor area allowing the setting up of a chicane and open area for basic manoeuvres simultaneously.

An outside training area also provides simulated lorry loading, the moving of very large awkward loads and container loading and unloading via a moveable ramp.

Instructor training will begin at the centre in the near future, this will be delivered by Chief Instructor and ITSSAR tutor Joe Scragg.

Grahame stated that “nothing can quite prepare you for the heat and humidity in Abu Dhabi, when I stepped off the plane at 8.30 pm local time my glasses steamed up. The temperature during the day reached 44 degrees centigrade with 85% humidity, but at least the sandstorms kept the sun off  your head!”.
