gateshead.jpgThe Problem
Gateshead Council work hard to keep the streets, parks and schools clean with the implementation of a new strategy. With dedicated teams responsible for maintaining a good standard of general cleanliness, the Council were keen to provide them with efficient equipment, starting with the replacement of old sweeper machines which came to the end of a previous hire agreement.

The Solution
Dawsonrentals sweepers have been working with the local authorities in the North East of England since the end of 2006, after being appointed the supplier of municipal sweepers for South Tyneside and City of Sunderland Councils.

As part of Dawsongroup plc, a company that has over 32 years, experience in the fleet rental business providing tailored business solutions for a cross sector of industries, Dawson Rentals were able to provide the Gateshead Council with fifteen Johnston road sweepers, all supplied by our Brighouse division.

The Equipment
The delivery included twelve CX200 compact sweepers, one CX400 mid-sized machine and as two VT550 truck mounted sweepers. The machines have been supplied to Dawsonrentals’ customary high specification, including air conditioning, wanderhose, leaf flap and Johnston’s Supawash high pressure wash system on all of the CX200 compacts.

The Benefits
With their new front-line street cleaning fleet ready to hit the streets, John Robinson, Group Director for Gateshead, commented: “We are working very hard in Gateshead to make it a great place to live and work, and have recently reconfigured our front line service into teams that can provide service delivery at a very local level.”

The additional benefit of special modifications to the compact products means much more flexibility in driver recruitment, as they have enabled them to operate those smaller machines on a standard car driving licence. John Robinson went on, “Buying the smaller, more efficient machine will help us to achieve our goal of true neighbourhood working without compromising our sweeper efficiency.”
