bti0021.jpgWhen high-tech logistics company, LCE UK Ltd, was faced with the problem of moving a large cyclotron through a narrow entrance and into a small room at the Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire, British Turntable’s industrial division provided the solution by supplying a manual bearing that would turn the equipment on its own axis to the right orientation for installation. Used in conjunction with a set of Jung jacks, the bearing made light work of turning the 22 tonne machine.

LCE’s Dennis Graham explains: “We needed to turn the machine by 90 degrees, but there was not enough clearance in the room for us to manoeuvre it manually. It could have been a nightmare, but the bearing solved the problem completely, saving us a lot of time, work and effort.

“Turning the small but heavy cyclotron in this particular space was always going to prove difficult, but we had the system turned in an hour or so, where it could have taken us all morning. The process was helped by using the bearing in conjunction with a set of Jung jacks. This allowed us to lift the machine and position the bearing safely and securely underneath it ready for turning.

“I was very impressed with the way British Turntable were able to supply the bearing at very short notice when we realised how problematic the job was going to be.  I was really impressed and very grateful to them for providing a quick solution.”

The bearing, which has a self weight of about 150 kg and is capable of carrying a load up to 60 tonnes, is available from British Turntable’s materials handling and engineering solutions portfolio. The company’s industrial division’s enjoys a unique capability in engineering movement because of the breadth of its portfolio, which includes HGV access turntables, materials handling carousels and large revolves capable of carrying a military tank or an aeroplane.
