The warehousing industry is flourishing thanks to a major shift in the way people shop.

Warehouses have traditionally installed industrial grade shelving to effectively and safely expand their storage capacity. These shelves can be made of steel or timber, manufactured to a set length and width and affixed with screws to a steel rack at either end.

A brand-new high strength, high-performance, lightweight OSB4 panel, SMARTPLY STRONGDECK is ideal for mezzanine floors, industrial shelving or other heavy loadbearing applications. Crucially, however, it is manufactured in sizes of up to 2400mm x 675mm, making it longer and wider than most steel industrial shelving.

Each panel of SMARTPLY STRONGDECK is 30mm thick, resistant to moisture, and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of OSB4 as defined in EN 300. It contains no core gaps, or hollow pockets and is CE marked in accordance with the harmonised standard EN 13986.
“Timber shelving for warehousing also brings the added benefit of being acoustically more employee friendly than steel,” comments Richard.
“While offering an effective storage solution, stacking steel shelves can be acoustically one big headache. In larger warehouse spaces, ricocheting sounds from multiple impacts on to steel shelving may cause disturbances to concentration, communication and may contribute to employee stress levels over extended periods.
“Timber, on the other hand, absorbs a lot more sound from impact compared to steel, making the overall space a lot quieter and employee friendly, making for a more cohesive working environment.”
