Honda Motor Europe Logistics, based in the port of Ghent, has placed a new order with Egemin Automation for the delivery of two new Egemin Guided Vehicles (E’gv’s). Egemin delivered the first six automated guided vehicles of the fully automated system for the plant in Ghent in September 2012.

From the logistics centre in Ghent, Honda provides the central logistics of cars, motorcycles, power equipment, spare parts and accessories for six other regional logistics centres in Europe. The existing E’tow floor chain conveyor, also supplied by Egemin, no longer met the logistical needs of the car manufacturer. Honda had to choose between overhauling the existing system or coming up with a new concept.

Customised automatic transport systems

Honda opted for the latter. In 2012, Egemin supplied six E’gv vehicles for the transport of pallets and returnable crates (RCs). Egemin supplied two large and four small AGV models, customised for the RCs that the company uses to transport the various parts.

The parts warehouse in Ghent recently put an adjoining hall into use. Because of the longer transport distances and higher volumes, Honda decided to expand its E´gv fleet with two additional AGV vehicles. Egemin received the order from Honda Motor Europe Logistics in late 2013. The installation of the vehicles is scheduled for the second half of 2014.
